Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Topology Update Video

Here is a video explaining some of the great changes that SharePoint 2010 is bringing.

Some highlights:

  • SharePoint 2010 hosting ability with multi tenancy

http://blogs.technet.com/speschka/archive/2009/11/30/enabling-multi-tenant-support-in-sharepoint-2010.aspx

Information Architecture changes:

  • Metadata service
  • Multi-user Office support
  • Large repository support
  • Digital asset support

One feature I found cool that is explained in this video is that the web front ends (WFE) only store and transmit to the browser the changes in the files. This is a new client protocol which only transmits the deltas. This feature is cool, but it only works with Office 2010 files.  What happens is that when you edit a document only the changes you make using Office Web Applications or the Client Office 2010 programs are uploaded to the SharePoint server. This saves bandwidth and time if you are working with large files.
